Biography
Loh Jun Hong is one of Singapore’s most celebrated classical violinists, described as “poetic, soulful, assured and compelling from the first note to the last” (Gisborne Herald). A graduate of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (NUS) and the Juilliard School in New York, he has performed at prestigious venues from Lincoln Center to The Esplanade, and is deeply committed to building Singapore’s classical music community through performance, curation, and education.
Achievements
JCI Singapore TOYP Honoree – Cultural Achievement (2018), recognised by Junior Chamber International for his outstanding contributions to the arts and classical music.
1st Prize, Gisborne International Music Competition (New Zealand); 1st Prize & Audience Award, Atlantic Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition (Boston); 1st Prize, Singapore National Piano & Violin Competition (Senior); and multiple other international podium finishes.
Best Singaporean Award at the inaugural Singapore International Violin Competition (2016), one of only 12 semi-finalists worldwide drawn from 35 candidates across 14 countries.
Concertmaster and Associate Concertmaster, Verbier Festival Orchestra (Switzerland), performing under world-renowned conductors including Charles Dutoit, Valery Gergiev and Daniel Harding.
Co-Artistic Director, Singapore International Festival of Music (SIFM), where he curated the inaugural programme theme “War & Peace” in 2015.
Co-Founder, More Than Music — a celebrated chamber concert series now over a decade old, dedicated to making classical music accessible and engaging; has performed and hosted the complete Beethoven Violin Sonatas cycle at the Esplanade.
Alumnus of Raffles Institution who made the bold decision at 15 to leave for the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, going on to earn a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) and a Masters of Music from Juilliard under Professor Glenn Dicterow.
