Biography

Christina Chan is a Singapore-born contemporary dancer and choreographer who graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from The Boston Conservatory in May 2010, where she was awarded the prestigious Arthur B. Whitney Medal for highest scholastic achievement. She previously trained at the Singapore Ballet Academy and The New Zealand School of Dance, receiving the Singapore National Arts Council Overseas Scholarship/Bursary Award from 2005-2010. In 2015, she was honored as a JCI TOYP Singapore Honoree in the category of Cultural Achievement.

From 2012 to 2016, Christina served as a full-time company artist and rehearsal director at Frontier Danceland, where she created numerous repertory works including Coming Soon, Between, Fatroom, Bufo Alvarius, and Little momentous. Her choreographic works have been performed internationally in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Israel, Cambodia, Shanghai, and France. She has collaborated with notable international choreographers including Noa Zuk, Stephanie Lake, Sita Ostheimer, Byron Perry, and many others across Asia, Europe, Australia, and Africa.

Currently serving as resident choreographer at Sigma Contemporary Dance, Christina has created seven works for Singapore Ballet since 2011, including repertory pieces for company seasons and festivals. She has also been featured in Prestige magazine's 'nation's brightest 40 under 40' in 2013 and named 'upcoming dance artist of the year to watch' by Lianhe Zaobao in 2012. Christina has taught at various prestigious institutions including LASALLE College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and continues to contribute to Singapore's contemporary dance scene through her choreographic and educational work.

  • Won the Sprouts national choreographic competition in 2011 and Best Dancer award in Sprouts 2012.
