What this category recognises

Original scholarship that advances knowledge — and educators who unlock it for others.

Academic Leadership encompasses two equally valued dimensions of contribution. The first is original scholarship — research that advances knowledge, generates new theoretical frameworks, or produces creative works of lasting significance. The second is educational leadership — teaching, mentorship, and institutional innovation that transforms how learning happens.

Suitable nominees include researchers and post-doctoral scholars, university faculty and lecturers, K-12 educators who have transformed their schools or pedagogy, education reformers building new programmes, doctoral candidates with major independent contributions, and informal educators creating meaningful learning experiences outside traditional institutions.

Outstanding —

Top-tier journal publications with 100+ citations, books from established academic publishers, or major awards.

Citations, peer reviews, awards, or independent recognition of significance — research, publications, creative works, curricula, or teaching frameworks.

Educational Reach & Impact

Outstanding —

Documented improvement in outcomes for 5,000+ students, or transformation of curricula adopted by 10+ institutions.

Direct evidence of influence on students or learners — outcomes, testimonials, longitudinal data on student trajectories.

Innovation in Method or Theory

Outstanding —

Documented adoption of methods or theories by independent institutions or researchers, with citations or implementations.

New frameworks, pedagogical approaches, or paradigm-shifting interventions — distinct from incremental application of existing methods.

Mentorship & Field Building

Outstanding —

Mentees who have themselves achieved significant recognition, awards, or leadership positions.

Concrete evidence of developing other researchers and educators, with named individuals and trajectories.
