Biography
Jonathan Leong (Yonghui Jonathan Leong) is a Singaporean academic who received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in Tribology and micro-surfaces. He was awarded the Merit Award for the JCI Singapore Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) award in 2018 for Academic Leadership and/or Accomplishment, recognizing his contributions to academia and educational innovation.
Currently serving as a Senior Lecturer at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), Leong holds leadership positions including Head of Capstone and Head of Events Management Programme in the School of Science and Technology. His research areas include lubrication techniques, novel applications of existing products, characterisation of tribological properties, and friction on the nano-/micro-scale. His educational research focuses on the use and efficacy of experiential learning and the metacognitive processes underlying these techniques.
Leong has also been recognized for his scientific writing abilities, having won an award for scientific essay writing (ASWP 2015/2016) and serving as a writer for Asian Scientific Magazine. He has extensive experience in teaching and developing multi- and cross-disciplinary courses at the undergraduate level, with a particular emphasis on experiential learning methodologies. Previously, he pioneered and managed the sole dedicated undergraduate programme for Events Management in Singapore at what appears to be his former role at NUS College.
