Biography

Kevin Goh Wei Ming is a Singaporean chess grandmaster born on July 7, 1983. He became Singapore's first grandmaster since 1999 when he achieved the title in 2020 at the age of 36, making him Singapore's fourth grandmaster and the first in 21 years. He is an eight-time Singaporean national champion, winning titles in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2017, and 2023. He has represented Singapore in the Chess Olympiad since 2004 and has competed in seven Olympic teams.

Kevin is a qualified chartered accountant who studied at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He previously worked as a manager at KPMG Singapore and later as Chief Financial Officer at Lucence before becoming CEO of the Singapore Chess Federation. He achieved his final grandmaster norm in 2018 at the QCD-Prof Lim Kok Ann Grandmasters Invitational tournament in Singapore, finishing second behind Tsegmed Batchuluun. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2020 when his Elo rating exceeded 2500.

As CEO of Singapore Chess Federation, Kevin has been actively promoting chess development in Singapore and internationally. He has organized chess seminars, taught chess at Singapore Prison Services as part of rehabilitation programs, and led initiatives to grow the chess community. He is also a published chess author, having written 'The Sicilian Najdorf 6 Bg5' in 2014. Kevin was honored as a 2020 Gen-T Honouree and has participated in multiple FIDE World Cups, including 2023.
