Biography

Mohamed Faizal Mohamed Abdul Kadir is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore and a distinguished legal professional who has made significant contributions to Singapore's legal system. Born in 1980, he was educated at Bedok View Secondary School before graduating with first-class honours from the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law in 2005. He subsequently earned his LLM from Harvard Law School in 2009, where his thesis received the Gold Medal Prize from the International Insolvency Institute.

Justice Faizal spent 18 years in the Singapore Legal Service before his appointment to the Supreme Court, serving in various capacities including as a Justices' Law Clerk, Assistant Registrar, Deputy Public Prosecutor, and eventually as Second Chief Prosecutor at the Attorney-General's Chambers. He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2020, becoming the first Malay-Muslim and youngest Senior Counsel to be appointed in the Legal Service. He became a Judicial Commissioner in 2024 before being appointed Justice.

Beyond his legal career, Justice Faizal is passionate about education and philanthropy, having founded multiple scholarships and awards including the Phoenix Grant at NUS Faculty of Law and educational initiatives for lower-income students. He received the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Singapore Honoree award in 2014 for Academic Leadership and/or Accomplishment, recognizing his excellence in legal education and mentorship. He was also selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2016 and has received numerous other awards including the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) and the President's Volunteerism & Philanthropy Award.

  • Founded multiple educational scholarships including the Phoenix Grant at NUS and awards for special-needs students.
  • Served as General Editor of the Criminal Procedure Code of Singapore: Annotations and Commentary published in 2012.
