Biography
Dr. Tan Yann Chong is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Nuevocor, a Singapore-based biotech startup founded in 2021. The company focuses on developing genetic medicines to treat incurable genetic cardiomyopathies, addressing a gap in the health industry where despite over 30 genetic mutations being known to cause cardiomyopathies, only 5 were being researched by biopharma companies. He was recognized as a Merit Award recipient in the Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) Singapore programme by JCI Singapore in 2021 for Medical Innovation.
Under his leadership, Nuevocor has raised the largest initial funding round in biotech in Singapore and developed the proprietary Protein Organ Specific Interactome Analysis (PrOSIA) platform. The company aims to expand the scope of treatable genetic cardiomyopathies from 5 genes currently addressed by the industry to over 30 known mutations. Dr. Tan has also worked as Managing Director at EVX Ventures and previously served as co-founder and Head of Research at Atreca, sharing his experience as a life science entrepreneur across San Francisco and Singapore.
Dr. Tan is actively involved in advancing Singapore's biotech ecosystem and frequently speaks at industry events. Nuevocor aims to obtain FDA approval to start clinical trials for their LMNA-related dilated cardiomyopathy medicine in 2025, targeting a particularly aggressive disease affecting about 1 million people globally.
