Biography
Dr Adrian Teo Kee Keong is a prominent Singaporean biomedical scientist and entrepreneur specialising in stem cell biology and diabetes research. He is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Biochemistry and Medicine at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and a Senior Principal Investigator and Deputy Director of the Cell and Molecular Therapy Division at A*STAR’s Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB). He is also a co-founder of BetaLife Pte Ltd, a biotech startup focused on stem cell therapy for diabetes patients.
Achievements
- JCI Singapore TOYP 2019 Honoree – Medical Innovation category, recognising his pioneering work in using human pluripotent stem cells to model and treat diabetes.
- Stem Cell Society Singapore Dr. Susan Lim Award for Outstanding Young Investigator (2018), one of the most prestigious early-career recognitions in Singapore’s stem cell research community.
- Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Postdoctoral Fellowship (2013), awarded during his training at Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, under one of the world’s foremost diabetes research programmes.
- A*STAR Graduate Scholarship (Overseas) and Honorary Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholar, completing his PhD in stem cell biology at the University of Cambridge under Prof. Ludovic Vallier.
- COVID-19 Resilience Medal (2023) and multiple public service recognitions including the Public Sector Transformation Award (2021) and A*STAR Firefly Borderless Award (Gold) for his leadership as Procurement Lead of the Stronghold Diagnostics Laboratory during the pandemic.
- A*STAR Graduate Academy Star Mentor Award (2023 & 2024) and Graduate Mentor of the Year (GRAMAY) Award (2022), reflecting outstanding dedication to training the next generation of biomedical researchers.
- Published in leading journals including Genes & Development, Cell Stem Cell, and Journal of Hepatology, with over 4,100 citations and an h-index of 32 on Google Scholar.
- EXCO member of the Stem Cell Society Singapore and member of the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) and Oxbridge Society of Singapore.
