Biography
See Too Hoi Siang is a Singaporean Chinese opera actress who was awarded the TOYP Singapore Honoree in 2001 for Business, Economic, and/or Entrepreneurial Accomplishment. She began her training in Chinese opera at the age of 14 and studied Cantonese opera under the tutelage of Joanna Wong at age 15. After years of training, she became a full-time artiste with the Chinese Theatre Circle in 1997.
In 1998, she made the significant decision to give up her executive career to become a lead opera actress, dedicating herself to preserving and promoting this traditional art form despite the modest income it offered. She is recognized as perhaps the only homegrown artist capable of performing both civilian and military-type roles with equal competence in Chinese opera, having mastered various character types including hua dan, ching yi, dao ma dan, and even male scholarly roles.
See Too has delivered almost 2,000 performances both in Singapore and internationally, performing in 14 countries across all continents at major art festivals. She has given Chinese opera demonstrations to over 500,000 students throughout Singapore and continues to visit schools to educate younger generations about this traditional art form. Her passion extends to charitable work, serving various charities through her performances and helping promote Chinese opera at Singapore's Opera Teahouse.
