Biography
Daniel Wong is a teen coach and education expert who specializes in empowering teenagers to thrive while showing parents how they can help. He is the author of the bestselling book The Happy Student: 5 Steps to Academic Fulfillment and Success, which was published in 2012 and has been translated into multiple editions. Wong graduated summa cum laude from Duke University in 2011 with a double major in mechanical engineering and economics, earning a GPA of 3.98 on a 4.0 scale. Before college, he spent two years in the Singapore military and currently holds the rank of First Lieutenant.
Wong was honored to receive the JCI Singapore Ten Outstanding Young Persons Merit Award in 2013 for Moral and Environmental Leadership. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, he grew up in Hong Kong and Singapore before attending Duke University on a full academic scholarship. His personal transformation from an unhappy overachiever to a fulfilled straight-A student inspired him to write his book and dedicate his career to helping other students find academic fulfillment and success.
As a certified coach and counselor, Wong has earned recognition as a teen and learning expert. He writes regularly about education, parenting strategies, and personal development, with his work featured on The Huffington Post, Yahoo!, Pick The Brain, Think Simple Now, and Personal Excellence. He has given talks in countries including the United States, Indonesia, and Singapore, and delivered a TEDx talk at Duke University entitled Realistic Idealism: Seeing People as People in April 2011.
